How Your Jewelry Works

Threadless Jewelry

What is it? Threadless posts are made up of two pieces: the decorative end, and a flat back labret. Threadless posts are secured by creating tension between the "pin" on the decorative end, and the post. The pin is bent slightly before being inserted into the post.

How to insert: To place threadless jewelry into your piercing, insert the post from the back of the piercing channel, then press the decorative end on until you hear a slight squeezing sound or no longer feel movement. Check closely to make sure the pin is no longer visible, and the top piece is flush with the post. Slight adjustments can be made by inserting the pin about 1/3 of the way into your post and bending the end.

Checking your jewelry. Use your pointer finger and thumb to firmly squeeze the front and back of the jewelry. We recommend doing this at least once a week after a shower. Threadless jewelry is typically very secure if inserted properly, but it is still important to be aware of the closure as the top can come loose from being snagged over time. Most of the smaller pieces we sell are made in this style. Threaded Jewelry

What is it? Threaded posts are made up of three separate pieces. The decorative gold end, plus a shaft (the piece that goes through the piercing) and a bead or disc backing. Threaded posts are secured by fastening the decorative end and the backing into a shaft in a clockwise motion. "Righty tighty, lefty loosey."
How to insert: To place threaded jewelry into your piercing, thread the disc (or bead) onto the shaft and insert the post from the back of your piercing before securing, the decorative end on in front by twisting clockwise -OR- thread the decorative end onto the shaft and insert the piece from the front of your piercing before twisting the backing on.

Checking your jewelry. Firmly grasp the decorative gold end and the backing, then rotate clockwise until no movement is felt. Because the front and the back are both removable, threaded jewelry can loosen on one or both sides over time. We recommend checking your jewelry at least once a week after a shower to ensure the ends are secure. All of the larger pieces we sell are made in this style. If you have any questions about your jewelry, we are always here to help!"

Seam Rings

What is it? Seam Rings are made with one single cut in the gold - the seam. BVLA Seam Rings have a concave and convex side. The convex side is rounded and smooth and will be more comfortable to insert into the piercing.

How to insert: Find the seam and using your pointer finger and thumb on each hand, grasp both sides of the ring and gently move in opposite directions with even pressure. Never pull the ring apart! Insert the convex (smooth) side into your piercing before bringing both ends back together with the reverse motion of opening. You may need to make some slight adjustments by pressing past the closed position on the ring to line the ends up. Make sure the closure is flush so the seam does not cause irritation if it passes through your piercing.

Checking your jewelry. Seam Rings are a great long-term jewelry option for healed piercings, and once properly inserted there isn't really a need to check the closure. They are not meant to be taken in and out, and can become warped if opened incorrectly or too many times. If you plan on changing your jewelry often, a different ring style may be a better option for you. Most of the rings we sell are made in this style. If you have any questions about your jewelry, we are always here to help!"
